Jesse understands that there are great challenges facing
Security – The first and foremost responsibility of the government at local, state, and national levels is to ensure, to the best of its ability, the safety and security of all citizens. The federal and state governments must take action to strengthen our borders, ensure that those who are in or wish to enter this country do so legally, provide all the support necessary for our men and women serving in the military to accomplish the tasks thrust upon them, and confront the terrorists and radicals who seek to do us harm. Our local government must do its part to see that all emergency service departments are well equipped to handle the most extreme circumstances that could present themselves.
Government spending – It is long overdue that we hold all of our elected officials to the same standards that we use to govern our own budgets: if you don’t have it to spend, then don’t spend it! Ballooning deficits and an appalling lack of self-control in spending our tax dollars has precipitated these uneasy economic times. Until we are able to say that every penny of the money generated by our taxes is being spent in a manner that reflects the ideas of our Founding Fathers and the State and Federal Constitutions, then we must continue in the fight to bring fiscal responsibility to every level of public service.
Judicial philosophy – The Judicial branch of government has the awesome responsibility of interpreting the laws of this land. However, there is great deal of concern that many judges have taken on the new role of essentially writing new legislation from the bench as it fits their own personal views. This poses a great danger to the very fabric of our democracy. We must work to ensure the selection of judges who will interpret, not write, the law.
Sanctity of life – The reason that issues concerning abortion or stem-cell research provoke such strong emotions, centers around the fact that these issues speak to who we are as a society. Will we be a society that protects life in its most vulnerable state? Or will we continue to allow so many lives to be snuffed out before our very eyes? We must become united in our efforts to protect the unborn and seek to create a society that again values life at all stages.
